Mozambique Island was the first capital of the country.
Vasco de Gama Statue. The Portuguese explorer reached Mozambique Island for the first time on 2 March, 1498.
Mozambique Island is connected to the main land by a one lane road bridge, which is 3kms long.
Mozambique Island is home to 12.000 people.
A fisherman used to say “Something new may always arrive from the sea..”
Fishing and tourism are the principal economic activities.
